Golfing on the Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca has become one of the favourite destinations for golfers thanks to the variety and quality of its facilities and its perfect climate for golfing all year round.
With over fifteen 18 hole golf courses, all within a 2 hour drive of Alicante, we at CostaBlancaGolfers have only selected the best some of which have been designed by Jose Maria Olazabal and Jack Nicklaus.
Most of the courses have a pro or golf academy to help you work on your swing, whilst there are plenty of driving ranges and practice greens where you can build up your confidence before you even set foot on the course. Below is a brief description of the golf courses and locations on offer for your Costa Blanca Golf Holiday.
Bonalba Golf Resort
This 18-hole par 72 golf course offers some stunning views from its location on the outskirts of Alicante City in the Mutxamel area of Alicante, Costa Blanca. It is an interesting and challenging course for players of all levels with wide greens and fairways surrounded by palm and pine trees with some water hazards and large number of bunkers throughout the course.
The Bonalba Golf Club has a covered driving range, putting green, practice bunker, on-course WC, on-course beverages, a restaurant, bar, tennis, sauna, parking, buggy hire, trolley hire and club hire.
The closest beach to the golf resort is that of San Juan, (Alicante) which is rated to be one of the finest in Spain. The beach is some 5km long that has all the facilities you would expect, including hotels, bars and restaurants.
A 15min car drive from Bonalba is the city of Alicante. It is also worth a visit but there is so much to discover in such a short space of time. Try aiming for the following sites and you wont be disappointed :- Santa Barbara Castle, La Explanada and Port, the Santa Cruz quarter and the old town, and, the MARQ.
If you have a little more time then take a visit to the Isla de Tabarca which can be reached by boat from the port of Alicante, opposite the Explanada esplanade. It is approximately 1,800 metres long and measures some 400 metres across at its widest point and is the only inhabited island in the region. There are several restaurants bordering the beach, plus a picturesque fishing village where visitors can try the traditional local cuisine.
La Sella Golf Resort
La Sella Golf Club, Costa Blancais situated on the slopes of a mountain lying next to the natural park of Montgo in Jesus Pobre in Denia. This 18 hole par 72 course plays 6289 metres from the back tees. It has a handicap restriction of 36 for both men and women and opened in 1991 designed by Juan de la Cuadra and is another perfect golf resort for your Costa Blanca Golf Holiday..
It played host to the Peugeot Golf Tour Event in March 2007 and more recently the Ray Clemence Golf Classic. It offers some excellent facilities including a putting green, driving range, restaurants, buggy hire, clubhouse, changing rooms, showers, sauna, club hire, pro shop and tuition.
A short car drive will take you to the centre of the town of Denia, Costa Blanca and its beaches.
If its activity you are looking for then there are ample opportunities to take part in water activities There are several good companies that offer boat rentals. Denia Charters offer half day, full day and week long hire of power boats - from 200€ for half day hire. Telephone 966 435 039. The same company run a ferry from Denia to Javea starting at 10am and running every two hours. Price approx. 15€.
For the sight seeing golfer you can take a boat or ferry from Denia to the Balearic Islands including Ibiza and Formentera. There is also a scenic train that runs along the coast to Calpe and back.
La Torre Golf Resort
The 18-hole, 5,350-metre, par 68 course at La Torre Golf Resort, Costa Blanca is kept in match condition all year round. It offers a great game of golf for everyone, from beginners to more advanced players. The maximum handicap allowed on the golf course is 28 for men and 36 for women. It has three lakes and five hectares of bunkers to challenge even its designer, golf legend Jack Nicklaus, so if you wish to have a testing Costa Blanca Golf Holiday this may be the golf resort for you..
Facilities include a driving range, a lively club house and a mobile refreshment buggy to keep you topped up during your round. There is also a golf pro shop in the town centre where you can purchase a wide range of golf equipment and accessories, from clubs to the latest designs in golf wear.
A short car drive will take you to the centre of the city of Murcia. Its climate and friendliness of its people make it welcoming, and this is noticeable in its bustling streets and squares like Traperia or Las Flores. Here locals and visitors alike take a stroll, savour delicious tapas or soak up some of the local culture by visiting historical monuments.
Finish your journey with a walk through the ancient port of Cartagena, a visit to Lorca where handicrafts, textiles, pottery and baskets, are still made using traditional techniques, or a more religious experience in the sacred surroundings of Caravaca de la Cruz, one of the 5 holy cities of the world.
